Distance Duo Sobkowicz and McMahon Collect Silver and Bronze on First Day of Landmark Championship

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Catholic women's track and field team traveled to Huntingdon, Pennsylvania to compete in the Landmark Conference Championships. The Cardinal women performed well in many track preliminaries on day one, setting themselves up for future success.

Kortney Clipper and Sarah Schumacher started the day off right for the Cardinals, both qualifying for the finals after their performance in the 100m prelims. Clipper logged a time of 12.45. Schumacher ran a personal best of 12.51, smashing her previous record, and moved up to third in the program record books. Also in the 100m, Erin Buckley ran a time of 12.67. Ainsley Reisman logged 12.79. Felicity Giampietro rounded out the group with her time of 13.25. 

Olivia Sobkowicz and Laurel McMahon earned the first medals for the Cardinals, finishing second and third, respectively, in the 10,000. Both Sobkowicz and McMahon broke the meet record and venue record with their performance. Sobkowicz ran a time of 37:10.70 and McMahon logged 37:10.71. The pair earned a total of 14 points for Catholic. 

Three Cardinals qualified for the 100m hurdle finals: Alicia Vo, Edith Tomasek, and Lauryn Pearson. Vo ran a season best 16.41. Tomasek also collected a season best with 16.57. Pearson qualified with her time of 16.85. Other competitors were Rachel Sprauer (17.03), Chloe Dodd (17.33), Corina Colmenares Bittar (17.54), and Pauline Kennedy (18.05). 

Bridgid Cavanaugh earned the first Catholic points of the day in the 1500m. The freshman placed sixth, earning three points, with her time of 4:55.96. Alexa Grassi logged her personal best time of 4:58.17, earning a point for her team with her eighth place finish. Erin Roche and Sara Roberts also earned personal bests, 4:58.88 and 5:20.55, respectively. Isabel Doran ran a time of 5:50.51. 

In the 200m race prelims, Catholic once again locked in three finalists. Schumacher placed fifth with her personal best time of 25.83. This is the new second best program time. Clipper finished in sixth with a time of 25.91. Buckley rounded out the qualifiers with her time of 26.27 in seventh. Reisman tied the program's tenth best time, 26.74. Giampietro ran 27.43 in the prelims.

Caroline Welsh was the lone Cardinal to log points in the field events for the Cardinals on day one, doing so in the shot put. The freshman threw a distance of 10.96m, earning three points with her sixth place finish. Kennedy threw a personal best 9.89m and Kaelyn Boodlal logged a distance of 9.17m. 

Pearson placed tenth in the long jump with a distance of 4.84m. Kate Quashne reached 4.65m. Alyssa Oscar jumped 4.54m and Erin Driscoll reached 4.03m. 

In the hammer throw, Maggie McNulty represented the Cardinals with her tenth place throw of 38.52m. 

After day one, the Cardinals have 21 points and are in 5th place. Catholic will return on Sunday, May 3rd for the second and final day of the Landmark Championship.
