Conference Champs! Cardinals Take Home MARC Carol Bower Cup and Varsity 8+ Gold

CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The women's rowing team traveled to Cherry Hill, New Jersey to compete in the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships on the Cooper River. The Cardinals sent two Varsity 8+ boats and came back with the team title and a win the Varsity 8+.

In the first boat, Sadie Mattaliano served as the coxswain, with Adalaide Murray in her stroke and Ellie Tynan in the bow. Other members of the boat were Claudia Hindley (7), Anne Mountcastle (6), Charlotte Fritz (5), Katherine Elizabeth Ma (4), Madelyn Smith (3), and Bridget Robben (2). In the morning prelims, Catholic placed first with a time of 07:08.951, about six seconds faster than the Milwaukee School of Engineering who finished second (07:14.721). Bryn Mawr rounded out the top three with a time of 07:36.805.

In the Women's Varsity 8+ finals, the Catholic boat and MSOE battled, finishing less than three seconds apart. The Cardinals secured the gold medal with a time of 07:10.408. MSOE finished in 07:13.188 and St Marys (MD) collected third with its time of 07:14.884. 

In the Women's 2nd Varsity 8+ finals, the crew placed fourth out of seven teams with their time of 08:09.141, improving on their prelim time of 08:14.754. Maley Gomez served as the cox, Giada Mirjah was the stroke with Abigail Ampe in the bow. Other members of the boat were Maeve Donnelly (7), Madelyn Bronson (6), Clare Gallagher (5), Victoria Recker (4), Bernadette Dineen (3), and Marelyn Diaz (2). 

With their performances, the Cardinals also took home the Women's Overall Team Championship Trophy, the Carol Bower Cup, with 46 points. St. Mary's (MD) placed second with 42 and MSOE placed third with 41.

The final regatta of the Cardinal's season is scheduled for Friday, May 8th and Saturday, May 9th in Pennsauken, New Jersey at the Dad Vail Championships. After being named the 2025 Dad Vail Champions, Catholic is looking to defend its crown.
