WASHINGTON, D.C. - On Thursday, May 14, the Catholic University Athletic Department will hold its annual senior celebration in the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center.
During the live event, the department will reveal the winners of its seven major awards. Today, we announce the nominees for our final award, the Departmental Dedication Award. This award is presented to a student who has provided a great level of service to the Athletic Department as a whole. This is the fourth year that the award will be handed out.
Student-athletes are nominated for this award by coaches and/or administrators and all nominees voted upon by the Senior Celebration Committee The winners will be announced live on May 14.
The six nominees for this year's award are
Daniel Ferrer,
Sam Grillo,
Kerri Hatcliffe,
Dom Navarro,
Leyton-Ramos Platt and
Tori Wilsey.
DANIEL FERRER
A four-year member of the Catholic men's soccer team,
Daniel Ferrer has played a crucial role on the Catholic Facilities & Operations Staff during his time as a Cardinal. Whether in the press box, the scorer's table, or around the field, Ferrer has been an essential member of the department for all four years at Catholic. "We can always trust Dan to do the most important jobs," said the Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations
Adam Nelson. "He is extremely dedicated and you can always count on him to be proactive and solve problems."
SAM GRILLO
Off the softball field,
Sam Grillo is a constant presence at the DuFour Center, working in the equipment room and handling laundry for her team and multiple other programs. Grillo could also be spotted at the scorer's table running the music on game days. "Hours could be very long at the Dufour Center," said Coordinator of Athletic Services Bobby Picardo. "Sam always found a way to make people laugh, which helped us get through the day."
KERRI HATCLIFFE
A four-year member of the Catholic softball team,
Kerri Hatcliffe is another constant presence in the DuFour Center. Hatcliffe has been a dedicated worker in the equipment room and handled laundry for a multiple teams, including her own. Over this past year, she was the point of contact for the special operations team, helping Facilities & Ops prepare for football and basketball games. "Early mornings or late nights, Kerri always got the job done," said Coordinator of Athletic Services
Bobby Picardo.
DOM NAVARRO
A four-year student worker for Catholic Facilities & Operations,
Dom Navarro has been a staple at Catholic athletic events. Navarro often finds himself at the scorer's table, in the press box, or working numerous other game day roles. He was essential when it came to lacrosse games, carefully executing duties as the shot clock operator. "Dom is an avid Catholic Athletics supporter," said Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations
Adam Nelson. "If he is not working a game, Dom is still in the stands cheering for all teams throughout the year."
LEYTON RAMOS-PLATT
When he's not playing tennis,
Leyton Ramos-Platt has made an effort to be present at every virtually Catholic athletic event, collecting content to share on social media and at major events like senior celebration. He has been an integral worker for the Communications & Sports Information staff, spending countless hours capturing the essence of Catholic Athletics, editing videos and taking photos across his four years as a Cardinal. "Leyton's contributions throughout this year can truly not be measured with words," said Assistant AD for Athletic Communications
Joey Madore. "What he has done this year in terms of the multimedia efforts for the department have provided a tremendous value for our athletics community. He will truly be a hard one to replace."
TORI WILSEY
A four-year member of the Catholic women's lacrosse team,
Tori Wilsey has been a dedicated worker for Catholic Facilities & Operations Staff throughout her time as a Cardinal. Whether she is in the pressbox or at the scorer's table, Wilsey has been essential to game day success. She was trusted with the role of game clock and shot clock operator for basketball season, and has dedicated many hours working for various other programs. "Throughout her time at Catholic, Tori always showed up to work with a positive attitude," said Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations
Adam Nelson. "We can always rely on her to get the job done."
