SHAWNEE, Pa. – The Catholic men's golf team finished out round two at the Landmark Championships on Sunday coming into the day sitting in a tie for eighth place. The Cardinals improved during round two by shooting a 310 as a team, a 17 stroke improvement from yesterday, to finish in seventh place for the weekend.
The best two finishers on the weekend for the Cardinals were
Timothy Cleary and
Matthew Begg who each had a two-day score of 157 to finish in a tie for 22nd. They also mirrored each other with each of their round scores, both shooting a 77 on Sunday. Cleary put together a solid stretch to finish up on the front nine with four pars and a birdie and he continued that on the back nine, shooting one under par on the last nine holes. He added another birdie on the back nine on the 521-yard par five at hole 15. Begg was also sharp on the back nine as he shot even par on the last nine holes and added a birdie on the 360-yard par four on 12.
Joe Earley also came away with a top 30 finish, improving vastly on his second round score with a 75, a 10 stroke improvement from round one. He shot one under par on the front nine with eight pars and a birdie on a par five on hole six. He added on five more pars on the back nine.
Matthew Dietl and
Jeremiah Brown rounded out the lineup for the Cardinals as Dietl shot an 81 on Sunday and Brown shot an 83, two strokes better than his opening round.
