SHAWNEE, Pa. – The Catholic men's golf team began its campaign in the Landmark Conference Championship on Saturday. The Cardinals shot a 327 as a team (+39) to sit in a tie for eighth place heading into the second round on Sunday.
The highest in the standings for the Cardinals were
Timothy Cleary and
Matthew Begg who currently sit in a tie for 23rd after shooting an 80 (+8) to be in the top half of the field. Cleary finished with eight pars over his round and also added in a birdie on the 510-yard par five one hole three.
Begg was sharp early in the round as he recorded pars on five consecutive holes from 2-6. He capped that stretch off with a birdie on hole seven, a 397-yard par four. Begg added on four more pars during the back nine to finish at an even 80.
Matthew Dietl was next in line for Catholic as he shot an 82 during his round to sit in a tie for 30th. He picked up two birdies during his round, both of which were par fives on holes six and 15. Dietl also poured in seven pars over the 18 holes.
The other two players in the Catholic lineup were
Joe Earley and
Jeremiah Brown and each of them shot an 85.
The second round will be completed on Sunday, April 26 and the first player will tee off at 8:06 pm.
