Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic men's tennis team hosted Marymount on Thursday for a non-conference match at the Dowd Family Tennis Courts. Battling through the summer-like heat, Catholic secured a 6-1 victory to claim another Pope's Cup win.
Catholic set the tone early by winning all three doubles matches to earn the first point. In the two spot,
Diego Romo and
Paulo Emanuelli cruised to a 6-1 win over Marymount's Gunek Singh and Om Patel.
Leyton Ramos-Platt and
Nathaniel Barish followed with another 6-1 win in the three spot, defeating Dante Neely and Robert Cabello to secure the doubles point.
Jake Hershey and
Flynn Hollinger capped the sweep with a 6-3 win over Joaquin Sigala and Rebh Villasmil on court one.
Catholic carried that momentum into singles play. Hollinger extended the lead in the number one spot, defeating Villasmil 6-4, 6-0 after a competitive set one. Romo followed with a straight-set victory on court two against Marymount's Singh, defeating him 6-2, 6-0.
The Cardinals maintained control in the match with straight-set wins in four and five singles. Ramos-Platt competed against Jose Torrecillas in the four spot, winning 6-2, 6-1. Barish battled against Emilio Escamilla in the five spot, winning 6-1 in set one, before battling for a victory in set two, 6-4.
In the six spot, Emanuelli battled Brett Neuhart in a tightly contested match. Emanuelli secured the first set, 6-2, but Neuhart fought back, winning set two, 6-3. The two battled it out in a third set tie break, where Emanuelli pulled out the win, 1-0 (10-8). The Cardinals ultimately secured the win over Marymount, 6-1.
Catholic will return to the Dowd Family Tennis Courts on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. for a Landmark Conference match against Drew.
