Box Score HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Catholic women's tennis team faced off against Randolph College on Sunday afternoon for the first match of their spring break trip. The Cardinals took down the Wildcats, 4-2.
Catholic seized control early in the match, securing the doubles point with wins in all three sets.
Annie Nemoy and
Shloka Tambat earned a victory in the one spot, defeating their opponents 6-3.
Mairead O'Hara and
Ava Niggemeier took down their opponents in the two spot, 6-3. In the third spot,
Ryan Adesso and
Sam D'Addezio conquered the Wildcats, 6-2.
Randolph looked to shift the momentum in singles, but Catholic had strong performances, allowing them to secure the victory. Tambat defeated her opponent, Fleur Gaalman, in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-4.
Meaghan Laniewski was in the two spot in singles Catholic, facing off against Rachel Combs. Laniewski captured the first set 6-4, and continued to fight hard in the second set, defeating Combs 7-5 to earn another point for the Cardinals.
Randolph picked up some points in the four and five spots, where Niggemeier and D'Addezio fell to their Wildcat opponents. But Randolph was unable to take the lead, and the Cardinals took home the win, 4-2. This win brings Catholic to 4-5 overall this season.
Up next, Catholic will take on Carroll on Wednesday, March 11. The match is set for noon at the Hilton Head HS Tennis Center.
