Madden Breaks School Heptathlon Record at South Region Final Qualifier

WINCHESTER, Va. – A few members of the men's track team headed to both Winchester, Va. and Medford, Mass. to compete in qualifying meets. 

SHENANDOAH SOUTH REGION QUALIFIER - Winchester, Va.

Drew Madden represented the Cardinals at the Shenandoah National Qualifier as the lone male. The freshman competed in the heptathlon, breaking his personal record and smashing the school record. Scoring 4,339 points, Madden placed second overall and was the highest Division III finisher at the meet. 

In the 60 meter dash, the freshman raced 7.59, equivalent to his personal best. Madden earned a new personal best in the long jump with 5.93m and placed second in the event. In the shot put, Madden placed third with a throw of 11.48m. Madden placed first in the high jump with 1.83m. The freshman raced 9.26 in the 60m hurdles. With a new personal best distance of 3.50m in the high jump, he placed third. To top it off, Madden placed second in the 1000m with a time of 2:57.98. 


TUFTS NATIONAL QUALIFIER - Medford, Mass.

The Cardinals started the day off with the 4000m Distance Medley Relay. The team consisted of Peter Winter, Gus Howard, Kendrick DuPree, and Michael Brunet. The group competed with a time of 10:13.26, the new program's second best time. 

DuPree also competed in the 800m with a time of 1:59.74.

Brunet represented the Cardinals in the 3000m. The freshman raced a personal best time of 8:39.69. He remains in third in the program record books with this new and improved time.

The Cardinals will wait and see who will make the cut for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Selections will be released at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 7th.
