Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic men's tennis matched up against Juniata for another Landmark Conference meeting. The Cardinals defeated the Eagles on Sunday afternoon, 5-2.
Catholic took command early, sweeping all three doubles courts to grab a 1-0 lead.
James Earwood and
Diego Romo took on their Juniata opponents in the one spot, defeating them 6-3.
Flynn Hollinger and
Jake Hershey competed in the two spot, shutting out their opponents, winning 6-0.
Leyton Ramos-Platt and
Lorenzo Neri sealed the deal for the sweep, winning 6-2.
The singles matches were competitive, but the Cardinals maintained their advantage as they looked to capture the win. Hershey fought hard in the three spot, defeating Arthur Deyoung 6-4, 7-5.
Romo also battled against his Eagle opponent, Shubh Sethia, in the four spot. Romo took set one 6-1, but Sethia fought back, taking Romo to a tiebreak in the second set. Romo ultimately secured the win in set two 7-6 (7-1).
Hollinger and
Drew Andrianopoulos secured Catholic's victory with their wins in the five and six spot. Hollinger defeated Gustaf Geremia in straight sets, winning 6-1, 6-4. Andrianopoulos won in similar fashion, taking down Dillon Murphy, 6-2, 6-4.
Neri reached his 40th career win in the match, while Ramos-Platt added his 30th and Andrianopoulos secured his 25th. Catholic closed out the match on top, locking in the 5–2 win. This win brings the Cardinals to 8-5 overall and 3-0 in Landmark play. Up next, Catholic will host Goucher on Wednesday, April 1 at 3:30 p.m.
