McHugh Earns First Landmark Athlete of the Week Honors

TOWSON, Md. – Catholic softball's junior third baseman and catcher Katie McHugh was named Landmark Athlete of the Week, it was announced today. This is the first time in her career to receive the honor.

McHugh went 7-for-12 on the 4-0 week with three triples, a homerun, and 7 RBIs. In the midweek matchup against Washington College, McHugh tallied a triple and a homer with 3 RBIs. The Cardinals defeated the Shorewomen 10-2 and 7-1.

The junior helped the Cardinals start 2-0 in Landmark Conference play with her 5-for-7 performance against Lycoming with two triples. Catholic defeated Lycoming 10-1 and 8-1 on Saturday, March 21st.

After her incredible week, McHugh leads the team in a multitude of categories: batting average (.400), triples (3), slugging percentage (.778), walks (9), and runs scored (17). The junior currently leads the conference with runs scored and walks. She currently is second in the conference with her three triples. McHugh is third in the conference for both slugging percentage and OPS (1.287).

The Cardinals will host Messiah on Wednesday, March 25th for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at the Catholic Softball Field.
