Cardinals Secure First Place Finishes at WAC Invitational to Start the Spring

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Catholic women's rowing team started its spring season at the Washington College Invitational. The Cardinals competed in the Varsity Eights and Varsity Fours and took the top spot in each race.

The Cardinal Varsity Eight boat competed in the prelims with 7:00.53, securing the first place finish heading into the finals. Sadie Mattaliano served as the coxswain with Adelaide Murrey as the stroke and Ellie Tynan in the bow. Other members of the boat were Claudia Hindley (7), Anne Mountcastle (6), Charlotte Fritz (5), Katherine Elizabeth Ma (4), Madelyn Smith (3), and Bridget Robben (2). 

The Cardinals completed the course in 7:02.35 to take the first place finish in the finals. The V8 boat defeated Jefferson, a Division II boat, in the finals.

In the Varsity Fours, Maely Gomez was the coxswain for the Cardinals. Giada Mirjah sat as the stroke, while Marelyn Diaz sat in the bow. The other two members of the boat were Madelyn Bronson (3) and Samantha Flynn (2). 

In the prelims, the Cardinals raced 8:39.72, finishing before Bryn Mawr. In the finals, the Cardinals pulled out the first place finish with 8:46.85. 

Up next, the Cardinals will compete at the St. Mary's Dual on Saturday, March 28th. The race will be held at The James P. Muldoon River Center and The Teddy Turner Waterfront.
