TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has named
Grace Button of the Catholic women's lacrosse team as their Defensive Athlete of the Week, it was announced today. This is the senior's first honor, and she is the first Cardinal to earn a conference distinction this season.
The Cardinals went 1-1 on the week, defeating Shenandoah 14-5 on Wednesday, March 11. In the game against the Hornets, Button led the team with five ground balls and had two caused turnovers.
Catholic then traveled to the midwest to take on No. 18 Chicago. The Cardinals ultimately fell to the Maroons in the match up, but Button played a crucial role on the Cardinals defense, leading the team with four caused turnovers, while scooping up three ground balls.
Button totaled eight ground balls and six caused turnovers across two games. She currently leads the team with 13 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers this season.
In their next match, the Cardinals will host Moravian to kick off Landmark Conference play. The game is scheduled for Saturday, March 21 at 1 p.m.
