Box Score HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Catholic men's tennis team competed against Carroll University on Wednesday afternoon for their second match of their spring break road trip. The Cardinals defeated the Pioneers in a close contest, 4-3.
Catholic earned the doubles point, setting the pace for the match early with wins in the one and two spots.
Diego Romo and
James Earwood were in the one spot, facing David Eman and Andrew Labelle and defeating them 6-4.
Lorenzo Neri and
Ian Arenas competed in the two spot, taking down Ulrik Gellein and Ryan Labelle 6-2 to clinch the point for the Cardinals.
In singles, Neri and
Flynn Hollinger defeated their Carroll opponents in straight sets. In the one spot. In the one spot, Neri took down Gellein 6-2, 6-2, while Hollinger defeated Eman 6-0, 6-1 in the four spot.Â
Stefano Gasasira secured the winning point for the Cardinals in the fifth spot. The match was tied 3-3 with only Gasasira remaining on the court for the Cardinals against Layton Carls. The two were tied 6-6 in the third-set tiebreak before Gasasira won the final four points to win the match.
With this win, Catholic improves their record to 6-3 overall. Up next, the Cardinals will continue their trip with two matches on Friday, March 13. They will first take on Lake Forest at 8:30 a.m. at Chaplin Park Tennis Center and will close out the trip at 5:30 p.m. against Baldwin Wallace at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort.
