TOWSON, Md. – Junior pitcher
Luke Cardman was sharp out of the bullpen for Catholic against Stevens to help earn himself Landmark Pitcher of the Week, it was announced today. It is the first time in Cardman's career that he has earned the honor.
In a low scoring affair, Cardman entered the game in the fifth inning and mowed down the Ducks lineup over 4.1 innings to help Catholic hold on to a 3-2 victory. Cardman only allowed two hits during his outing and he punched out a career-high eight batters to earn his first win of the season. After a lead-off infield single in the top of the ninth, Cardman was able to bear down and retire the next three batters to keep the tying run stranded.
Cardman's eight strikeouts currently rank second in the Landmark in the early portion of the season despite only having the ninth-most innings pitched to this point. His eight strikeouts are also the most by a pitcher in a single outing on the season in conference thus far.
The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday, February 25 when they take on York (Pa.) at home. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 pm at Talbot Field.
