BALTIMORE, Md. - The Catholic University men's swimming and diving team continued to build momentum Saturday at the Landmark Conference Championships, maintaining their lead through three days of competition. The Cardinals sit in first place with 628.5 points heading into the final day.
Catholic opened the evening in the 400 Individual Medley, where
Sean Kelty placed first in 4:00.30. Ben Lutcher took second, following just behind Kelty with a time of 4:06.83.
In the 100 Butterfly, Alex Tsakumis captured silver with a time of 50.05, while
Vincent Wills added a fifth-place finish in 51.21.
Hank McGuire and
John Holler picked up podium finishes in the 200 Freestyle, McGuire finishing in second with a time of 1:42.72 and Holler taking third just moments later in 1:42.87.
Shawn Mashburn followed with a fourth-place finish 1:43.75.
In the 100 Backstroke,
Teddy Tsakumis had a standout performance, collecting the gold and earning an NCAA B-cut with his time of 48.83.
Catholic closed the night with a second-place finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay. The team of T. Tsakumis, A. Tsakumis,
Colin Raue, and
James Caldwell combined for a winning time of 1:23.89.
The Cardinals return Sunday where they will look to secure their 10th consecutive Landmark Conference Championship title.
