Cardinals Sit at First on Day One of Landmark Championships

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Catholic men's swimming and diving team opened competition at the Landmark Conference Championships on Thursday afternoon, earning podium finishes in all three men's events.  The Cardinals closed out day one with 121 points, sitting at first place heading into Friday. 

The Cardinals are aiming to secure their 10th consecutive Landmark title at this year's championship. It marks Head Coach Chris Paynter's first conference championship meet at the helm of the program.

Charles Connolly III, Gabriel Hermann, and Jack Walsh represented Catholic in the men's 1-meter diving event, each advancing to the finals. Hermann led the way, capturing first place with a score of 413.35. Connolly followed with a second-place finish at 3:18.20 points and Walsh took third at 311.20.

In the 200 Medley Relay, Teddy Tsakumis, Alexander Tsakumis, Jack Thompson, and Vincent Wills combined for a second-place finish. They clocked a time of 1:32.22, just two seconds behind Drew.

John Holler, Shawn Mashburn, Hank McGuire, and Daniel Green competed in the 800 Free Relay, where they delivered a strong performance. The team improved on their previous season-best time of 7:04.05 by nearly 10 seconds, finishing in 6:54.66 to earn silver.

The Cardinals return to the pool Friday for day two of the Landmark Conference Championships. Events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
