Catholic Drops Road Bout Against Drew

MADISON, N.J.  – The Catholic men's soccer team continued its road trip on Saturday afternoon for another conference contest against Drew. An own goal in the first half put the Rangers on top and they held on to that lead throughout the action to defeat the Cardinals 1-0.

The Rangers held the shot advantage 5-3 in the opening 45 minutes, although none of the shots hit the target for them during the first half. The own goal came in the 37th minute to break the scoreless tie for Drew as Azaria Tewodros did put a shot on target in the 42nd minute but Donovan Friedhoff made a save to keep Drew in the lead heading into halftime.

The Cardinals were on the front foot to begin the second half as they got two shots on target off in the first 10 minutes from Tewodros and Seth Michalak. Michael Brown ripped a shot on target in the 73rd minute but Friedhoff came up with a save again to keep the shutout intact late in the game.

Despite getting two more shots on target in the final five minutes, neither found the back of the net and the Cardinals went on to drop the match 1-0. The loss dropped Catholic to 9-1-4 on the season and 3-1-2 in conference play.

Owen Allegro got the start in goal and played the full 90 minutes in the loss. Ellington Andrews, Corey Magro and Charlie Paparella all also played the full 90 in the contest.

The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday, October 21 at 7 pm when they take on Susquehanna at Sassafras Multipurpose Field.
