WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic swimming and diving team traveled to neighboring Howard on Saturday afternoon. The women fell to the Bison, 223-47, and the men were defeated 187-81.
On the men's side, the Cardinals opened the meet with a podium-finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of
Teddy Tsakumis,
Sean Kelty,
Vincent Wills, and
James Caldwell placed second, touching the wall in 1:35.70.
John Holler picked up a second-place finish in the 1000 Freestyle, clocking a time of 10:12.99.
Shawn Mashburn added a strong showing in the 200 Freestyle, finishing fourth in 1:48.97, while also placing second in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:58.42.
The Cardinals found success in the backstroke events, led by T. Tsakumis, who claimed first-place in the men's 100 Backstroke with a time of 50.80. Wills followed with a third-place finish in 57.30. On the women's side,
Logan Shields placed second in the 50 Backstroke, clocking a time of 29.23.
Gabriel Hermann took home the gold in the men's one-meter diving event, finishing with a score of 259.65.
Tara Wiarda picked up a podium finish in the 50 Butterfly, earning second-place with a time of 28.66.
Izzy Giannetto followed closely, placing third in 28.99.
T. Tsakumis captured first in the men's 100 Individual Medley, posting a time of 53.38, while
Delainey Brandt led the women in the 100 IM, touching third in 1:03.73.
Catholic closed the meet in the relays, with the women's 400 Freestyle Relay team of
Katie Nalepka,
Keriann Collison, Giannetto, and Shields finishing fourth with a time of 3:56.34. The men's relay of Holler, Mashburn,
Daniel Green, and Wills placed third in 3:21.29.
Up next, the Cardinals will travel to Baltimore, Md. to face off against their conference opponents at the Landmark Conference Championships. The meet will kick off on Thursday, February 12, at the Mangione Aquatic Center and conclude on February 15.
