WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Catholic swimming and diving team faced off against Landmark Conference opponent Wilkes on Saturday afternoon. Both men's and women's teams took down the Colonels in the meet, the women earning a 181-87 victory, with the men securing a 150-103 win.
The Cardinals set the tone early, winning both the women's and men's 200 Medley Relays to open the meet. On the women's side, the squad of
Emily Albans,
Bella Mugno,
Grace Robinson, and
Taylor O'Neil took first with a time of 1:55.07. The men followed with a first-place finish from
Connor Nolan,
Benjamin Lutcher,
Alexander Tsakumis, and
Jack Thompson, who posted a time of 1:41.39.
Catholic continued its momentum, with
Sophia Duckworth and
Hank McGuire taking first in the 1000 Freestyle. Duckworth claimed first place with a time of 11:50.42, while McGuire captured the gold in 10:12.53.
Molly Foltz led the Cardinals in the 200 Freestyle, earning the gold with a time of 2:04.44, followed closely by Mugno who placed second in 2:05.22. On the men's side, A.Tsakumis took first in the 200 Freestyle, clocking a time of 1:50.67.
Albans had a standout performance for Cardinals on the women's side. She took first in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:01.77, and the 100 Butterfly in 1:04.55.
Anna Dymek added a first-place finish in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 26.43. Dymek later captured first the 200 Breaststroke in 2:37.13.
The men saw multiple individual victories throughout the meet. Lutcher finished first in the 100 Breaststroke in 1:01.59 and later won the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:00.33.
Colm Driscoll picked up two first-place victories, one in the 200 Butterfly at 2:10.21 and the second in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 56.12. McGuire added a first-place finish in the 100 Freestyle, clocking a 48.66.
Catholic closed out the meet strong with the women sweeping the top three spots in the 200 Freestyle Relay, led by a team of Albans,
Emily Blaskovich,
Maura Sadowski, and Mugno, who finished in 1:44.85. The men capped the day with a victory in the 200 Freestyle Relay, with McGuire,
Diego Ramirez,
Paul Lacava, and
Bill Purcell securing first with a time of 1:31.41.
The Cardinals will be back in action on February 12 where they will take on Landmark opponents at the Conference Championships. The meet will take place at the Mangione Aquatic Center in Baltimore, Md.
