Catholic Honors Seniors in Meet Against Salisbury

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic men's swimming and diving team took on Salisbury Saturday afternoon for their senior day meet. The Cardinals had strong performances in the meet, but were ultimately defeated by the Seagulls, 201-61.

Before the start of the meet, the Cardinals honored eight seniors for their contributions to the Catholic swimming and diving program: Charles Connolly, Walter Cunningham, Nathan Ford, Daniel Green, Paul Lacava, Aidan Malvey, Christian Miraglia, and Jack Walsh.

Teddy Tsakumis took first in the 200 Backstroke, recording a time of 1:52.81 to take the gold.

Shawn Mashburn and Bill Purcell both picked up a third-place finish against Salisbury. Mashburn took third in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 10:04.20 and Purcell took the bronze in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:00.69.

Vincent Wills had a podium finish in the 200 Butterfly, recording a time of 1:57.52 to take second in the event. Wills picked up a second medal at the meet, finishing third in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 52.38. 

John Holler also picked up a silver medal against the Seagulls, taking second in the 500 Freestyle. He finished with a time of 4:48.56 to notch the top-three finish. 

Alex Tsakumis also picked up a third-place finish in the 50 Freestyle, clocking a time of 21.94.

To close out the meet, the Cardinals picked up a second-place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay. The crew of Holler, T. Tsakumis, Jack Thompson, and Hank McGuire took the silver with a time of 3:11.22

Up next, the Cardinals will head to Howard on Saturday, January 31. The meet is set for 1 p.m.
