ARLINGTON, Va. - The Catholic women's swimming and diving team earned a Pope's Cup victory on Friday afternoon at Marymount. They took down the Saints in the meet, 92-74.
The Cardinals started the meet strong with a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. A team of
Tara Wiarda,
Delainey Brandt,
Anna Dymek, and
Emily Blaskovich picked up 11 points for the Cardinals, with a time of 1:53.94. Blaskovich, alongside
Claire Brockmann, later participated in the 50 Yard Backstroke, Blaskovich taking first in 29.96 while Brockmann took second in 30.18.
Wiarda and Dymek also picked up individual first-place finishes, Wiarda in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:20.20, and Dymek in the 50 Butterfly in 27.08.
Molly Foltz brought home the gold in the 400 IM, finishing five seconds ahead of her second-place competitor, in 4:52.25.
Bella Mugno also had a podium finish in the event, taking third at 5:01.10.
Mugno, Brandt, and
Grace Kelly later took the whole podium in the 50 Breaststroke, each finishing milliseconds within each other. Kelly clocked a time of 32.32 to take the top spot, followed by Brandt with a time of 32.37, and then Mugno who took the bronze in 32.49.
Grace Robinson and
Izzy Giannetto both medaled in the 200 Freestyle, Robinson picking up the gold with a time of 2:05.78 while Giannetto took third in 2:11.71.
The Cardinals closed out the meet with a second-place finish for the Cardinals in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, where Brockmann, Giannetto,
Adriel Marrero, and
Taylor O'Neil picked up the silver medal in 1:45.44.
With this win, Catholic brings their record to 4-2 overall this season, and remains undefeated against the Saints in series history, 3-0.
The Cardinals will return to the DuFour Center Pool for a senior day match up on Saturday, January 24. They will take on Salisbury at 1 p.m.
