FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Catholic women's swimming and diving team took to the pool for their first meet of the new year against the University of Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals delivered several standout performances, but ultimately fell to the Eagles in a tightly contested meet, 155 - 106.
Catholic got off to a strong start in the 200 Medley Relay, as the team of
Tara Wiarda,
Delainey Brandt, and
Anna Dymek,
Emily Blaskovich captured second in the event with a time of 1:54.18.
Logan Shields,
Bella Mugno,
Grace Kelly, and
Taylor O'Neil followed closely behind, finishing third in 1:55.57.
Molly Foltz had a pair of victories for the Cardinals, claiming gold in both distance freestyle events. Foltz took first in the 1000 Free with a time of 11:13.36 and picked up another win in the 500 Free finishing in 5:29.81.
Wiarda and Shields each earned podium finishes in the 100 back, with Wiarda taking first in 1:01.28 and Shields taking third in 1:04.21. Wiarda also added a third-place finish in the 100 Free with a time of 58.01 while Shields secured another bronze in the 200 Back with a time of 2:18.60.
Mugno, Dymek, and Kelly each participated in the 100 Breast, finishing within seconds of each other. Mugno took second at 1:09.31, Dymek took third at 1:11.89 and Kelly took fourth at 1:12.69. Mugno continued her strong day with a first-place finish in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:32.52 while Brandt earned the bronze in the same event with a time of 2:33.80.
In the 100 Fly, Dymek and
Adriel Marrero finished nearly side by side, with Dymek placing second in 1:02.82 and Marrero in third at 1:02.91.
Grace Robinson recorded a personal best time of 1:50.53 in the 200 Fly, adding another first-place finish for the Cardinals. Blaskovich took home a silver in the 50 Free, finishing in 25.63.
The Cardinals will continue their road stint in Arlington, Va. on Friday January 16 at Marymount. The meet is set for 1:00 p.m.
