Men's Swim and Dive Falls to Eagles on the Road

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Catholic men's swimming and diving team opened their 2026 slate on Saturday afternoon at Goolrick Natatorium, taking on the University of Mary Washington. The Cardinals saw strong performances to start the new year, but the Eagles took the meet, 171-91.

Catholic began the afternoon with a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The squad of Teddy Tsakumis, Sean Kelty, Vincent Wills, and James Caldwell took the silver with a time of 1:36.63.

Reid Knuckles and Shawn Mashburn hit the pool in the second event of the day, the 1000 Free, delivering a one-two finish. Mashburn captured the top spot in the event with a time of 10:14.13 and Knuckles followed closely behind in second with a time of 10:38.65. Mashburn continued to his standout day with another gold in the 500 Free, finishing in 4:58.11 in the tight race.

John Holler notched a first-place finish in the 200 Free, clocking a time of 1:47.50. Holler later secured a silver in the 100 Free, finishing in 49.05. Vincent Wills had a podium finish in the 100 Fly and 200 Fly, taking first in the 100 with a time of 53.26 and second in the 200 with a time of 1:59.40. Alex Tsakumis followed closely behind Wills, taking second in the 100 Fly at 53.68.

In the 200 Breast, William Purcell recorded a second-place finish with a time of 2:19.93. Knuckles capped off his afternoon with a personal-best time in the event, finishing fifth with a time of 2:38.36.

Up next, Catholic will face off against Marymount on Friday, January 16 at the Lee Center Pool. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
