BERKELEY SPRINGS, W. Va. — The Catholic women's golf team finished the weekend on Sunday afternoon on day two of the Shenandoah Invitational. As a team the Cardinals shot a 314, 21 strokes better than yesterday, to finish the weekend in fourth place out of 13 teams.
Brooke Smith once again shined for the Cardinals, improving on her score from yesterday, with a 74 over 18 holes to finish tied for second in the field on the weekend. Smith parred all but two holes on the front nine and improved even more on the back nine with five pars and two birdies to beat her score from yesterday by two strokes. Her 74 is the eighth best round in program history.
Gabi Courtney finished in the top 20 of the field in a tie for 18th as she shot 40 on both the front and back nine for an even 80 on the day. In total, she finished with nine pars on the day to help her finish three strokes better than day one.
Lauren Wright finished the day with a 77, which was 10 strokes better than her first round to finish in a tie for 20th over the weekend. She poured in two birdies and three pars on the front nine and continued to play steady on the back nine with pars on the first four holes and a birdie on 16.
Harper Capilli and
Mary McGuire both finished the round at 83 and 84 respectively. Capili parred her first four holes and also added a birdie on 18. McGuire totaled six pars on the afternoon to help finish five strokes better than round one.
On the 'B' team,
Isabelle Seratch put together the best day as she shot an 83. She finished with birdies on 8 and 18 and parred four of her first five holes. She shot a 39 on the front nine.
Catholic's next match will be at the Battle of the Beltway in Timonium, Md. on Saturday, September 13 hosted by Stevenson.
