Earley Leads Catholic in Second Place Finish at Cardinal Fall Classic

HAGERSTOWN, Md.  — The Catholic men's golf team hosted the Cardinal Fall Classic over the weekend and came away with a second place finish in the 12 team field. The team shot a 591 over the two rounds to finish tied for the ninth-best two round performance in program history. 

Joe Earley led the pack over the two days for the Cardinals, finishing in third place in the field. He shot an even par 70 on Saturday to be on top of the leaderboard heading into Sunday. On Sunday, he shot a 37 on both the front and back nine to finish the round with a 74. He finished his second round with two birdies and 12 pars to earn a top three finish.

Jack Davenport and Timothy Doheny also finished in the top 10, both placing in a tie for eighth. They shot identical scores in both rounds, 74 and 73 and the 73 in the second round for both matched a career low round. Davenport poured in 13 pars and two birdies in the second round and Doheny racked up four birdies to go along with 10 pars.

Connor Desjardins and Jeremiah Brown each played on the Catholic 'B' team and finished in a tie for 21st. After a 77 in the first round, Desjardins shaved two strokes off in the second round with a 75 while making two birdies and 10 pars, including two streaks of four consecutive pars. Brown took four strokes off his first round score with a 74 in the second round, as he birdied three out of four holes on the front nine. He totaled five birdies and six pars in total in the round.

Matthew Dietl was the other Catholic athlete to finish in the top 30, placing in a tie for 26th. After shooting a 78 in the first round, Dietl shot a 75 on Sunday to finish the weekend at +9. He started out the front nine with a birdie followed by five consecutive pars to finish even and added four more pars and two birdies on the back nine. 

The Cardinals are competing at the Stevenson Invitational on Monday, September 29 at Piney Branch Golf Course.
