Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic men's tennis team played at home for the first time in the fall season on Saturday afternoon and picked up two convincing victories over York (Pa.) and St. Mary's (Md.) each by scores of 7-0.
MATCH ONE- Catholic 7, York 0
The Cardinals took the doubles point in the match by sweeping the three matches.
Flynn Hollinger and
Jake Hershey wrapped up their doubles set by capturing their second victory as a pairing by taking six out of the seven games.
James Earwood and
Diego Romo were in the number one doubles spot and also won convincingly taking six of the seven games to lock up the point for Catholic.
Jay Harper and
Nathaniel Barish went down to the wire in the number three slot but came away with a 7-6 set win to finish off the doubles sweep. It was Harper's first collegiate doubles win.
Earwood won both of his sets in the number one singles spot to get the Cardinals their second point. He took the match by set scores of 6-0 and 6-1 to finish off a win. The Cardinals locked up the win by also capturing victories in the number two and three spot as Romo won his sets 6-2 and 6-4, and Hershey won his two by scores of 6-0 and 6-2.
Hollinger,
Charlie Robbins and
Paulo Emanuelli also won the remainder of the match ups in the match and Catholic cruised to a 7-0 win over the Spartans.
MATCH TWO- Catholic 7, St. Mary's 0
The Cardinals rolled out a different group of players in the second match of the day but found similar success, once again starting out by getting the doubles point.
Stefano Gasasira and
Leyton Ramos-Platt played in the number three spot and won their set by taking six straight games. It was Gasasira's first win since joining the Catholic roster.
Henry Ogden and
Paulo Emanuelli wrapped up their set next in the number two spot by a score of 6-1.
Ian Arenas and
Lorenzo Neri were in the number one slot and also captured a win, six games to three.
Neri played in the number one singles spot and took both of his sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-2 to give Catholic its second point. Arenas recorded his first career singles win in the number two spot in straight sets winning 6-1 in both. Odgen locked up the win for Catholic in the number three spot as he took down his opponent 7-5 and 6-2.
Ramos-Platt and
Drew Andrianopoulos both picked up wins as well in five and six spots and Gasasira finished off the 7-0 win by playing in the longest set of the day that went up to 20 games. Gasaria edged out his opponent 11-9 in the third set to claim the victory.
The Cardinals will next compete on Saturday, September 20 in a road match against Lebanon Valley.
