WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University of America President
Peter Kilpatrick and Vice President for Athletics and Recreation
Kevin Robinson today announced that
Glenn Østen Anderson, MSt, MFA, Associate Professor of Media and Communication Studies in the School of Arts and Sciences has been named as the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) for Catholic Athletics.
Glenn follows Rev. John P. Beal, J.C.D., the Stephan Kuttner Distinguished Professor of Canon Law, who served our student athletes as the FAR for more than 20 years. The FAR role serves as the liaison between the academic and athletic units of the university and also represents the university in conference and NCAA affairs.
Glenn came to Catholic in 2020 after three years on the faculty at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. Glenn previously served as an adjunct professor at James Madison University's School of Media Arts and Design in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Glenn's academic specialty is in documentary film. HIs most recent film, Coogan's Way, looked at the history of a famed Irish pub in New York City's Washington Heights neighborhood. The film was featured on multiple PBS affiliates and earned a NYNATAS Emmy Nomination in 2022. He is also a member of the National Capital Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Glenn's current work in progress documentary film is focused on mental health and college athletics and was partially shot on our campus.
Before coming to academia Glenn spent fifteen years as a writer, producer, editor, camera operator and programmer in the worlds of film, television, journalism and public affairs. From 2012 to 2015 he served as the Senior Producer for Social and Streaming Content for BBC News' US operations. His stops in sports media included staff and freelance credits with Runner's World Online, CBS Sports / College Sports Television (CSTV), HBO Real Sports, Nike, New Balance, Fox Sports, WNBC and NBC Sports. While at CSTV, Glenn was the director and producer of 120 episodes of Mission: SEC Football - their first ever direct-to-web show.
Glenn's passion for sports media was born out of his own athletic career as a track and field athlete. In 1996-1997 he competed for Valencia Club de Atletismo in Spain's Division de Honor athletics league. He would later be sponsored by USA Track and Field to attend two developmental training camps at the ARCO US Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California.
Glenn has been a familiar presence around CUA Athletics for several years; directing many of our streaming broadcasts of football and basketball and training many of our students in sports media production. Several of Glenn's previous students from both Shenandoah and Catholic can be found on the media staffs of several professional and NCAA Division I sports teams around the country.
Glenn is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania (BA Spanish), the University of Oxford (MSt European Literature) and New York University's Tisch School of the Arts (MFA Film and Television). He lives in Prince William County, Virginia with his wife, son and dog.

"I have known Glenn Osten Anderson for almost 3 decades. I watched him mature as an athlete and later as a professor and filmmaker with ties to the athletic community. His deep empathy for the well being of athletes at all levels, but particularly within D3 NCAA, sets him apart from many. I think he is uniquely qualified to be a Faculty Athletics Representative."
