WASHINGTON, D.C. - In the midst of a seven-game winning streak, Catholic heads to Lancaster, Pa. this weekend to continue competing in the Landmark Conference Tournament. The Cardinals defeated fifth-seeded Lycoming on Tuesday afternoon in Fairfax, Va.
Tuesday's 10-3 victory comes after the Cardinals won six straight to finish the Landmark Conference season, sweeping Lycoming and Drew to secure its place as the four-seed in the tournament.
Catholic enters the weekend with an overall record of 24-16, going 14-10 in conference play to sit as the number-four seed in the tournament.
The Cardinals will open play on Friday vs. top-seeded Wilkes at roughly 2:30 p.m. at Penn Medicine Park. Catholic went 1-2 versus the Colonels back in March, dropping game one in extra innings before a dominant performance from
Sam Fairhurst in a 9-0 victory in game three. Fairhurst struck out a record 17 hitters in a Landmark Conference contest to pick up the victory.
Mitchel Johnson doubled twice and
Sammy Burman doubled and tripled in the win.
Catholic has four regulars with an OPS of .915 or higher this season, led by
Steve Thomas and Burman with respective OPS of 1.054 and 1.008. Thomas leads the team with 59 hits and 52 runs scored. He recently moved onto Catholic's single-season top-10 with his 15th double. Burman has 54 hits, 16 extra-base hits, and 35 RBI. Johnson leads Catholic with 10 homers and
Dante Pozzi has an OPS of .915 and leads the team with 42 RBI.
Joe Marini is one of four players with 10 or more doubles this season, tallying 14.
On the mound,
Cody Bosak,
Roman Tozzi, and Fairhurst are the leaders, combining for 29 starts and 15 wins this season. Bosak leads the team with a 2.88 ERA with 49 strikeouts in 59.1 innings. Tozzi is the team's leader in innings pitched with 62.1, striking out 46 with an ERA of 3.90. Fairhurst leads the team with 60 strikeouts in 60 innings.
Camden Mounts has the best ERA in the bullpen with a 3.00 ERA in 21.0 innings.
