WASHINGTON, D.C. — Three members of the Catholic baseball team were selected to the D3Baseball.com All-Region V Team and three more made the ABCA All-Region V Team, it was announced today by both organizations.
Cody Bosak and
Roman Tozzi earned a spot on the D3Baseball.com team for the second consecutive season and
Steve Thomas earned a selection for the first time in his career. Thomas was joined by
Sammy Burman and
Sam Fairhurst on the ABCA All-Region V team. The three players on both teams match the highest for the program for All-Region players for each publication in a season.
Thomas joins an elite group of players in program history to be named to both All-Region teams in the same season. Thomas made the third team on both the D3Baseball.com and ABCA All-Region teams as a catcher for the first two All-Region selections of his career. He shattered two program single-season records in hits (73) and runs (62) and also tied for the sixth-most doubles (18) in a season in program history. Thomas led the team with a .401 batting average with 25 extra-base hits and 37 runs driven. He was a key part to the Cardinals postseason success as he went 17-for-33 (.515) with 12 runs scored and nine RBI.
Bosak was named to the All-Region V Second Team squad after earning a first team honor last season. Bosak pitched a career-high 71.1 innings during the season while finishing with a 5-0 record and a 3.15 ERA. Bosak rang up the second-most batters on the team with 55 strikeouts and held opponents to a .254 batting average, the lowest on the staff among qualified pitchers. Tozzi was named to the Third Team for D3baseball.com after pitching a career-high 70.1 innings and finishing with a 4.73 ERA and a 6-3 record. He struck out 52 batters and held opponents to a .267 batting average against him.
Burman earned the first All-Region nod of his career, being named to the ABCA All-Region V Third Team. Burman was solid throughout the season, slashing .353/.438/.509 with 11 doubles, two triple, four homers and 40 RBI. His 61 hits were tied for the 10th-most hits in a season in program history and he also boasted a perfect fielding percentage on the season with 88 chances. Fairhurst also made the ABCA All-Region V Third Team as he tossed the most innings in the Landmark with 73.2. He pitched to a 3.42 ERA while finishing with a 7-1 record which tied him for the sixth-most wins in a season in program history. He also led the team and conference in strikeouts with 66 on the season and held opponents to a .263 average against him.
