HAGERSTOWN, Md. — After finishing the first day of the Cardinal Spring Classic in third place, the Catholic men's golf team held its place throughout the day on Sunday, shooting the third-lowest score of the day with a 303 (+15). Over the two days, the Cardinals shot a 603 (+27) as a team to finish behind Stevenson (596, +20) and Goucher (+14, 590).
Darren Horton came away with the only top 10 finish for the Cardinals of the weekend, matching his first round score of 74 (+2) to finish tied for seventh among the field. Horton came out firing on all cylinders, birdying three of his first four holes and knocking in five pars on the front nine. Horton poured in five more pars on the back nine to finish at 148 (+4) for the weekend.
Joe Earley finished the weekend tied for 11th place after shaving two strokes off his first round score, finishing Sunday with a 74 (+2). Earley finished the round with 10 pars and three birdies, including four pars and a birdie on his final five holes to finish at 148 (+6) over the two rounds.
One more Cardinal finished in the top 15 over the weekend and it was
Timothy Cleary who finished at 151 (+7) over the two rounds to finish tied for 13th in the field. Clearly finished Sunday with a 78 (+6) and ripped off five straight pars at one point on the front nine. He added two birdies and three pars over the rest of his round to finish his weekend.
Jeremiah Brown put together the best round of his career on Sunday to help him finish in a tie for 17th on the weekend while competing for the Catholic "B" team. Brown finished the round at -4 (68) to climb up the leaderboard after shooting an 84 on day one. Brown birdied three of his first holes and four in total on the front nine to go along with five pars. He knocked in two more birdies and five pars on the back nine to help finish at 68. His 68 is tied for the fifth lowest individual round in program history.
The Cardinals are back on the course on Friday, April 11 for the Penn State Altoona Spring Invitational. The event will take place at the Sinking Valley Country Club in Altoona, Pa..
