Catholic Leads by 11 After Day One of Cardinal Spring Classic

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Catholic shot an opening-round score of 313 (+25) to build an 11-shot lead after day one of the Cardinal Spring Classic. Drew sits in second with a score of 324 (+36). 

Catholic's round is the fifth-best single day round in program history, marking back-to-back weekends with a new top-five score. 

Brooke Smith, Lauren Lombardo, Avery Mrak, and Gabi Courtney all find themselves in the top 10 individually after the tournament's opening round with Smith leading the way after a 75 (+3) to sit in third. 

Smith's 75 is her seventh career round of 75 or better, all in the top 10 (with ties) in program history. She started with a flurry, recording birdies on the first three holes, finishing the round with five birdies and an even-par 36 on the back-nine. 

Lombardo is in a tie for fifth-place after a 78 (+6) on Saturday. Lombardo added birdies on the par-four eighth and the par-three 15th, shooting identical 39's on the front and back. 

Mrak shot 79 (+7) and is in solo eighth. She birdied the par-three second, par-five third, and par-four 18th holes. Mrak carded a 37 (+1) on the front-nine. Courtney finished with an 81 (+9), adding one birdie and shooting a 39 (+3) on the back. 

Catholic's other "A" and "B" round-one scores include Harper Capilli (t11, 82), Isabelle Seratch (t11, 82), Lauren Wright (t13, 83), Mary McGuire (t13, 83) and Tyler Zierski (17, 85). 

Catholic is back out on the course for day two tomorrow at Black Rock Golf Course.
