HERSHEY, Pa. — The Catholic men's golf team continued the 2025 spring season with a third-place finish at the Elizabethtown Invitational, finishing with a team score of 320 (+36) to finish one stroke behind Moravian for second and five strokes behind the hosts Elizabethtown for first.
Jack Davenport put together a solid round finishing tied atop the leaderboard with a 76 (+5). The freshman started off the day with a birdie on a 500-yard par five to go along with four consecutive pars to wrap up the front nine to be at 38 heading into the back nine. He rattled off seven consecutive pars on the back nine to finish with a 38 there as well. Davenport went to tiebreaker tee off after being tied with two others for first place after 18, but fell to Moravian's Robbie McNelly to finish the day in second.
Joe Earley finished just outside the top 10, tying for 11th by shooting an 80 (+9). Earley started his afternoon off with the lone eagle of the day for the Cardinals on a par five to highlight his front nine. He picked up a stroke with a birdie and knocked in three pars on the back nine to secure his spot tied for 11th.
One more Catholic player finished in the top 15 as
Timothy Cleary shot an 81 (+10) in his round to finish in a tie for 14th. Cleary strung together three pars on both the front and back nine and finished the round with back-to-back pars to finish with a 40 on the back nine.
Timothy Doheny finished in a tie for 20th in the field after putting together a strong back nine score of 37 to secure his place. During the back nine, Doheny had a string of six holes where he finished with five bars and sunk a birdie to finish his round at 83 (+12).
Mario Ventresca and
Matthew Dietl both competed on the Catholic "B" team and also came away with top 20 finishes, finishing tied for 17th and 20th respectively. Ventresca poured in six pars and a birdie to help finish with an 82 (+11) and Dietl totaled five pars to help shoot an 83 (+12).
The Cardinals next match comes on April 5-6 as they host the Cardinal Spring Classic at the Black Rock Golf Course in Hagerstown, Md..
