TOWSON, Md. – Clare Martin has been named the women's lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career, the Landmark Conference announced Monday. 

Martin totaled seven caused turnovers, two ground balls, and a draw control in a strong defensive week for Catholic. She was a standout in a close loss to Rowan, forcing four turnovers and collecting two ground balls. She was the game's leader in caused turnovers and the only player across both teams with more than two.

On Saturday, Martin added three caused turnovers and a draw control in a conference victory at Juniata. Two of her disruptions came in the fourth quarter as Catholic held the Eagles to just five goals. Martin extended her streak of contests with a caused turnover to three straight.

The junior has totaled 13 caused turnovers and 17 ground balls so far this season, already surpassing her ground ball total from a season ago (16) with two regular-season games remaining. Martin has logged 34 caused turnovers and 35 ground balls in her career. 

Catholic will wrap up the regular season with back-to-back home games, starting with Elizabethtown at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
