Box Score COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Catholic took the doubles point to get off to an extremely strong start, but Scranton fought back to ultimately take down the Cardinals 4-3 on Saturday night at the Junior Tennis Champions Center.
Playing at No. 3 doubles,
Ella Knox and
Ava Niggemeier finished first to take the first doubles match for Catholic, winning 6-3 before
Shloka Tambat and
Mairead O'Hara won at No. 1 doubles, picking up a 6-4 victory to secure the doubles point.
Scranton tied the match with a win at No. 6 singles and took the lead with a win at No. 2 doubles before Niggemeier, the only Cardinal to win both matches, took a comfortable 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles. The Royals took a 3-2 edge with a win at No. 1 singles before Catholic tied the match with a monster win from
Meaghan Laniewski at No. 3 singles. '
Fighting for the final point and the victory, O'Hara competed hard at No. 4 singles, winning the first set before ultimately falling in a third set tiebreak.
