CHERRY HILL, N.J. – Catholic men's rowing made its spring debut at the Knecht Cup on Saturday. Two Cardinal boats raced down the Copper River on day one ahead of the finals tomorrow.
The men's varsity four started the day with a fifth-place finish.
Caleb Gascoyne (coxswain), Luis Pinero (stroke),
Bryce Wnek (3),
Paul O'Connor (2), and
Alan Nicholas (bow) clocked a 8:33.55 to beat out the boat from Scranton that finished in 10:09.04. Lafayette won the heat with a time of 7:37.86, followed by Lehigh with a 8:01.70, and George Mason with a 8:21.08.
The men's varsity eight placed third in the DII/DII heat two.

Ryan Lewis (bow) completed the course in 6:43.16. Trinity took the top two spots in the heat as its A crew clocked a 6:32.45 and its B crew finished in 6:41.97.
Catholic will continue competition at the Knecht Cup tomorrow, starting with te varsity four final at 9:54 a.m.
