KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Participating in The Spring Games on its spring break trip to Florida, Catholic picked up victories over DeSales and Wheaton (Mass.) to start the season 6-0 for the second time in program history.Â
GAME 1 - Catholic 6, DeSales 1
Â
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning, Catholic used a six-run third inning to pick up a 6-1 victory over DeSales.Â
Aubrynn Arcement picked up her third win of the season, twirling 5.0 innings and allowing zero earned runs.
Olivia Stinchcomb pitched the final two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two to finish things off.Â
The Cardinals did their damage with two outs in the bottom of the third inning as
Amy Gastright stepped up to the dish with
Sam Grillo on first and two outs. Gastright drew a walk to put two Cardinals on for Stinchcomb who blasted a double to center, scoring both to make it a 2-1 game.
Kerri Hatcliffe followed with a double to left, scoring Stinchcomb to push the Cardinals ahead by two runs.
Elise Faxon added an RBI single before Arcement reached on an infield single. After an error made it a 5-1 game, Catholic took advantage of a new pitcher with a double steal, scoring Arcement.Â
Faxon and Arcement had multi-hit games for the Cardinals while Gastright drew a pair of walks. Grillo added a double and a sacrifice in the contest. In 19.0 innings this season, Arcement has an absurd ERA of 0.37, allowing just three runs total and one earned run this year.Â
Â
GAME 2 - Catholic 4, Wheaton 1
Â
Leading 2-1 in the sixth inning, Catholic added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the frame to help the Cardinals earn a 4-1 victory over Wheaton.Â
Arcement, starting at third, smacked her first home run of the season and third of her career, in the top of the third to put Catholic on the board. Wheaton answered with an unearned run off
Alex Pley in the bottom of the third, but the Cardinals retook the lead in the fourth as Stinchcomb drove in
Katie Scolese on a sacrifice fly.Â
Pley would pitch the fourth inning before giving way to
Sophia Colangelo, finishing with just one hit allowed. Colangelo would pitch the next two, facing just one batter more than the minimum with two strikeouts.Â
In the sixth inning, Grillo led off with a single to left center, followed by Scolese's second hit of the contest. After the next two batters were retired, Hatcliffe singled to center, scoring Grillo to make it 3-1. Faxon added the final insurance run with a base knock to right, scoring Scolese.Â
Gastright pitched a scoreless seventh inning for Catholic, earning the save in her first appearance in the circle this season.Â
Scolese's three hits give her a third multi-hit game and second three-hit game of the season. Five or her nine hits have been for extra bases this season.Â
The Cardinals return to action on Monday morning as they take on Skidmore at 9 am and Russell Sage at 11:15.Â
