Cardinals Record Three Second Place Finishes at Towson Invite

TOWSON, Md. – Catholic men's track returned to Johnny Unitas Stadium for day two of the Town Invitational on Saturday and logged a number of notable performances.

Three Cardinals qualified for the finals in the 100m dash. After winning the prelims with a time of 10.73, Jevontae Fearwell returned to the track and ran a 10.68 to place second. Sam Compton set a new PR with an 11.00 in the prelims and improved on it in the finals after clocking a 10.98 for fifth. He remains fourth on Catholic's all-time list. Galang was seeded eighth in the prelims but clocked an 11.24 in the final to snag seventh.

After taking over the fifth spot on the all-time list in the 5,000 last weekend, Conor Gross takes the seventh spot in the 800 with a time of 1:53.92. Gross sits in the top 25 nationally as of the time of publication. 

Cayden Drost also made the finals in his event, the 110H. He qualified with a time of 16.42 and dropped .02 seconds in the final to finish fifth with a personal-best time of 16.40. He currently sits in eighth on the program's performance list. 

The Cardinals' 4x100 relay team finished second with a time of 41.86. Compton, Farewell and Galang were joined by Sebastian Lopez to clock the eighth fastest time in program history and the fastest in the Landmark so far.

Catholic also finished second and third in the 4x400 relay with the top team of Nick Troy, Gabe Stypul, Peter Winter, and Colin Matthews clocking a time of 3:24.95. 

Bobby Santangelo recorded a new PR in the hammer throw with a 36.36m mark. He moved into sixth on the performance list, besting his previous mark of 35.19 set at the 2024 Landmark Conference Championships.

Several other Cardinals recorded notable finishes. Max Lindung placed second in the javelin with a 44.19m and Stypul slotted in fourth in the pole vault with a 3.90m jump. Troy and Matthews both also clocked PRs. Troy got his in the 200m with a time of 23.33 while Matthews found personal success in the 400m with a 52.70. Patrick Morris (16:24.45) and Daniel Ponciano (16:40.76) set personal bests in the 5,000, sandwiching their finishes around David Stango (16:26.31).
