RICHMOND, Va. – Opening the outdoor season at the Fred Hardy Invitational on Friday, Catholic women's track & field picked up right where it left off with several strong performances. Â
Brigid Byrnes recorded the best individual finish for the Cardinals with a fourth-place performance in the 400m hurdles. She completed the race with a personal best time of 1:03.51. She also placed 14th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.90.
Mia McConnell followed Byrnes with a 10th-place finish in the hurdles, clocking a 1:06.14.
Kate Inglis placed eighth in the 5000m with a 17:58.62, besting her time from last season's Landmark Conference Championships by exactly 10 seconds.Â
Molly Maxwell and
Bethany Riddle finished 11th and 12th respectively in the discus throw. Maxwell recorded a 29.62m mark while Riddle came in at 27.58m. The duo also competed in the shot put with Maxwell placing 12th after a personal-best mark of 9.05m and Riddle placing 14th with a 8.69m mark.
Both Cardinal relays placed within the top 10. The 4x400m relay team featuring McConnell, Byrnes,
Alexa Grassi, and
Alicia Vo clocked a 4:03.79 to place eighth out of 16 teams and moved into seventh in program history. The 4x100m relay team of
Kortney Clipper, Sarah Schumacher, Felicity Giampietro, and
Megan Burns clocked a 52.19 to secure fourth.
Catholic's next meet is the Towson Invite which will run from Friday, March 28 through Saturday, March 29.
