Cardinals Smack Three Homers in Loss to Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Mitchel Johnson, Dante Pozzi, and Sammy Burman all homered for Catholic in an 11-4 Landmark Conference loss to the Elizabethtown Blue Jays on Tuesday afternoon.

Catholic totaled nine hits in the contest with multi-hit games from Joe Marini, Pozzi, and Matthew Fisher, but Catholic only scratched one more run to go with the three solo blasts. Elizabethtown tallied 15 hits, including four for extra bases.

Johnson put the Cardinals ahead in the top of the first with a two-out solo shot off Elizabethtown two-way player Quinten Perilli who pitched and hit second in the lineup.

Jack Scholz, starting his first game as a Cardinal, pitched a scoreless first, but the Blue Jays put two on the board in the bottom of the second as Tommy Kanakos drove in RJ Agriss and Nick Fiorini with a two-out single to center.

After a scoreless top of the third from Perilli, the Blue Jays put four on the board in the third to take a 6-1 lead. Pozzi trimmed the gap to four in the top of the fourth with his second home run of the season, but the Blue Jays added another run off new pitcher Danny Prior to push it back to five.

Leading 9-2 after six innings, Burman added the third run via solo home run off Justin Peterson, pulling Catholic within six runs.

Zach Burton drove in the fourth and final run of the game, reaching on a fielder's choice with the bags full to make it 10-4.

With his third multi-hit game of the season, Fisher is up to .382 on the season, good for second on the team. Johnson's home run was his fourth of the season and the 19th of his career. Pozzi's is his second of the season and 16th of his career. Marini is four hits shy of 100 for his career.

Catholic has a quick turnaround, taking on York (Pa.) in a rescheduled game from earlier this spring. First pitch at Jaquet Field is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
