KISSIMMEE, Fla. - On Tuesday at the Spring Games, Catholic picked up an 11-3 victory over Lasell before dropping a tough contest, 12-8, to Loras later in the evening.
GAME 1 - Catholic 11, Lasell 3
Catholic tallied 14 hits while
Sophia Colangelo and
Alex Pley combined to limit the damage in a five-inning victory over Lasell on Tuesday.
Five Cardinals had multi-hit days led by a three-hit performance from
Toni Ruley at the top of the order. Ruley went 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, hitting her first triple and third extra-base hit of the season.
Ruley was joined with multi-hit days by
Elise Faxon,
Katie Scolese,
Amy Gastright, and
Aubrynn Arcement. Arcement recorded Catholic's other extra-base hit, another triple, driving in two runs in the contest.
Colangelo earned her third win of the season, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings, and allowing just one hit.
Catholic scored at least two runs in each of the first three innings, getting three in the first with a Scolese RBI single and an error that allowed both Scolese and Faxon to score.
Faxon and
Sam Grillo added an RBI each in the second inning before Arcement drove in two with a triple in the third. Ruley knocked in the eighth run of the day in the third, scoring Arcement with an RBI ground out.
Lasell got three back in the fourth, including a pair of unearned runs, but
Grace Christie's RBI ground out in the bottom of the inning pushed Catholic's lead back to 9-3. In the fifth,
Leeah Koegel pinch-hit, driving in Arcement before an error allowed Ruley to score the game-ending run.
GAME 2 - Catholic 8, Loras 12
Catholic's offense showed up once again, tallying 11 hits and eight runs, but it was a struggle in the field as Loras totaled 13 hits and had help from eight errors in the 12-8 victory over Catholic.
Catholic had four extra-base hits with
Amy Gastright hitting a three-run triple and
Olivia Stinchcomb smacking two doubles and driving in two runs, but it wasn't enough to overcome Loras.
RBI doubles from Faxon in the first and Stinchcomb in the third had Catholic leading 3-2 heading into the bottom of the third, but Loras would score the next six runs across the third and fourth innings to take an 8-3 lead.
The Cardinals roared back in the fifth, scoring four runs thanks to Gastright's bases-clearing triple before
Katie McHugh singled her home to pull the Cardinals within a run.
Unfortunately for the Cards, Loras scored three more in the fifth and one more in the sixth to build a 12-7 lead before Koegel added an RBI single in the seventh.
Catholic will enjoy an off day on Wednesday before returning to action on Thursday against Sant Joseph's (Maine) and UMass Dartmouth,
