Bredemann Scores Six Goals, Cardinals Claim Victory Over Dickinson

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A huge first quarter powered Catholic women's lacrosse to its first victory of the 2025 season as it took down Dickinson, 16-11, on Saturday. The Cardinals scored six goals in the first quarter and fended off a middle-game surge from the Red Devils to come away with the competitive win.

Henley Bredemann was the star of the show for the Cardinals, scoring six goals and securing six draw controls in her third collegiate contest. The freshman opened the contest with three straight draw controls and found the back of the net in all four quarters, with half of her goals coming in the second.

Dickinson broke onto the scoreboard less than three minutes into the contest, but Catholic responded with five unanswered goals to grow a sizable lead early. Tori Wilsey and Lindsay Sawyer both scored two goals in the opening frame while Jessie Lee added two assists to push the Cardinals ahead 6-2. The Catholic defense was also very effective to start, disrupting seven of Dickinson's 13 clear attempts and forcing them to turn the ball over 15 times in the first half.

Despite the early tilt, a five-goal scoring spurt from the Red Devils across the second and third quarters tied the game at nine apiece with 24:20 remaining. Catholic was able to squash the momentum with four unanswered to give itself some padding heading into the final quarter. Annie Galarza had a big quater at just the right time, scoring two goals within five minutes to stop the visitor's comeback attempt.

Lee continued to fill up the stat sheet with a goal with 4:41 remaining. The senior finished with a goal, two assists, two caused turnovers, and an impressive seven draw controls. Maggie Traynor also scored as the clock ticked down, becoming the seventh Cardinal to record a goal on the day.

QUICK HITTERS:
  • With her six goals today, Bredemann becomes the second consecutive freshman to score six goals in a single contest. She joins Charlotte Spalding who reached the same feat last season against Wilkes on April 27.
  • Wisley has recorded a hat trick in her last two outings against the Red Devils. The junior has scored three goals in three games throughout her career, with the other one coming against Meredith in the NCCA Tournament last season.
  • Six different Cardinals recorded a caused turnover in the contest, led by Lee and Caroline Regan with two apiece. Maddie McDevitt and Clare Martin also shined defensively, each notching to ground balls and a caused turnover.
  • Grace Button led the team in ground balls with four, bringing her career total to 55 early in her junior campaign.
  • The Cardinals hold a 5-2 advantage over Dickinson in all-time match ups dating back to 2008. Each contest has been decided by five goals or less.
Catholic is back in action on Friday, March 7 for the first of four games against ranked opponents. No. 9 Franklin & Marshall will make the trip to D.C. for a 6 p.m. contest.
