Catholic Wraps Up Regular Season at Father Diamond Meet

| By:
FAIRFAX, Va. – The Catholic women's indoor track & field team competed in its last regular season meet of the 2024-25 season on Friday, traveling to the Father Diamond meet hosted by George Mason. The Cardinals had a positive outing and showed steady growth heading towards next week's Landmark Conference Championships.

Erin Buckley set the Cardinals' first personal best of the day. The sophomore ran the best 60m dash of her career in the prelims with a time of 8.01 seconds. Buckley then placed fifth in the finals, clocking a 8.05 in the event for the second consecutive week.

Catherine Lorelle made the top five in the mile, squeaking past the finishing line in  just under the six minutes with a time of 5:59.99. The freshman finished a step behind her competitor from Marymount, but was able to best two others in the field by more than 14 seconds.

Lorelle returned to the track for her first collegiate 800m race and was joined by two fellow Cardinals. Lorelle took sixth behind Alexa Grassi and Elena Rohrer. Grassi took third with a personal-best time of 2:23.03, improving on her previous best by .20 seconds which she set over a year ago. Rohrer also notched a new personal-best of 2:45.47 to take fifth. She dropped over 10 seconds from her last appearance in the event one month ago.

Sarah Schumacher and Felicity Giampietro finished back-to-back in the 200m, placing eighth and ninth respectively. Both notched season bests with Schumacher clocking a 27.17 while Giampietro recorded a 27.26.

Another PR was claimed by Catholic in the long jump courtesy of Kate Quashne. The freshman took fifth with a jump of 4.68 on her second to last attempt. Quashne has improved her personal best in three out of her first five collegiate meets.

Bethany Riddle and Alyssa Oscar also finished within the top five in their respective field events. Riddle recorded an 8.52m mark in the shot put to finish fifth in a field that saw George Mason sweep the top three. Oscar set a personal best in the triple jump with a 9.41m mark, besting her mark of 9.38m which she earned at the same venue a season ago.

The Cardinals will return to the PG Sports & Learning Complex for the second time this season to compete for a championship. The conference event is set to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 1.
