Mugno Headlines Nine Cardinals with All-Conference Recognition

TOWSON, Md. —  The Catholic University women's swimming and diving team had a total of nine athletes earn all-conference honors in 16 events at the conference championships this past weekend. The Cardinals finished second behind Scranton for the team title.

The end-of-meet awards were highlighted by Bella Mugno who was named Landmark Conference Swimmer of the Year for the second consecutive season. The junior went a perfect 5-for-5 for weekend, finishing first in three individual events and two relay events. Mugno swept the breaststroke events to claim first-team honors in the 100 and 200 races while adding another individual victory in the 400 IM. She also tabbed first-team honors for her efforts in the 200 and 400 medley relays. 

Tara Wiarda and Molly Foltz followed Mugno with three individual all-conference selections. Wiarda swept the backstroke events for back-to-back seasons while adding a second-team selection in the 200 IM.  She claimed a team-high seven all-conference selections. In her debut at a collegiate championship, Foltz was named to the first team in the 200 fly and the 500 free while adding an honorable mention nod in the 1650 free. Ava Snyder claimed the first-team honor in the mile race and was a honorable mention in the 500 free. 

Two all-conference honors were earned by Madison Gozdan in the 200 IM and 100 breast. The freshman raced to a first-team selection in the IM on day two of competition before delivering a honorable mention performance the next day in the breaststroke.

Maura Sadowski, Emily Albans, and Izzy Giannetto each earned one individual all-conference honor a piece in addition to impressive relay contributions. Albans as named to the first team in the 100 fly, Sadowski took second team in the 200 free, and Giannetto claimed honorable mention in the 50 free. 

The Cardinals used six different swimmers to field all four all-conference first-team relays. A variety of combinations including Wiarda, Mugno, Albans, Giannetto, Sadowski, and Emily Blaskovich won the 200 and 400 medley and free relays.
