BALTIMORE, Md. – Bella Mugno won two gold medals to lead Catholic women's swimming and diving on day three of the Landmark Conference Championships. The Cardinals accumulated 502 points through event 27 to sit in second place behind Scranton heading into the final day of competition.
Mugno entered this evening's finals session as the favorite in two event after winning both the 400 IM and the 100 breast prelims. She delivered in both races, claiming two gold medals. After winning the IM prelims by over five seconds, she dropped more time to win the final by three seconds. Six events later, Mugno returned to the pool to claim a sizable victory in the breaststroke with a time of 1:06.23.
Madison Gozdan joined Mugno on the podium with a bronze medal. The freshman clocked a 1:07.56 in the 100 breast to steal a top spot among a competitive field.Â
Emily Albans and
Tara Wiarda also earned gold on the day. Albans broke the program record with a time of 58.56 in the 100 fly to out touch her closest competitor by .36 seconds while the 100 back saw Wiarda record a winning time of 57.73.
Olivia Palubinski swam a 59.54 in the fly final to finish fourth while
Grace Robinson touched in 1:01.12 to take seventh. Albans continued her day by taking taking fourth in the backstroke with a 59.52.Â
More medals were awarded to the Cardinals in the 200 free.
Maura Sadowski earned silver with a time of 1:57.04 after finishing strong and out touching two other competitors who finished within .7 seconds of one another.
Ava Snyder added anther final to her resume with a fifth place finish and a time of 1:58.40.
Emily Blaskovich followed in sixth with a 1:58.83.Â
The 200 relay team of Albans, Widara,
Izzy Giannetto, and Blaskovich ended the session with another win for Catholic. They bested their seed time by .29 seconds to notch a 1:39.25 for first.
The final day of the championships meet will begin tomorrow at 10 a.m.
