BALTIMORE, Md. – The Catholic women's swimming and diving team won three out of five finals events on Friday evening during day two of the 2025 Landmark Conference Championships. The Cardinals two individual victories came from rookies competeing in their first collegiate championship meet.
The Cardinals jumped five spots on the leader board to sit in second place with 241 points though event 14. They trail Scranton who has tallied 388 points and have a solid lead on Drew who fell to third with 192 points. Â
The trio of
Molly Foltz, Ava Snyder and
Maura Sadowski started the day off strong for the Cardinals with qualifying times in the 50 free prelims. Foltz entered the final as the favorite with a prelim time of 5:12.42 and held on the secure Catholic's first individual victory of the meet. She dropped over 1.5 seconds in the evening to win with a time of 5:10.82. Snyder and Sadowski also placed exactly how they were seeded, with Snyder claiming third with a time of 5:12.82 and Sadowski following in fourth with a 5:13.78.
Catholic continued to top the podium in the 200 IM.
Madison Gozdan and
Tara Wiarda went 1-2 in the prelims to set expectations high for the finals. Both delivered personal-best swims to come away victorious. Gozdan clocked an impressive 2:10.27 during her first collegiate championship meet to take first while Wiarda shaved off time from her outing in the event last season to record a 2:10.88 for second.
Emily Blaskovich and
Izzy Giannetto qualified for the 50 free final to round out the day's individual events. Giannetto sprinted a third place finish after completing the up-and-back in 24.77 seconds, setting a new collegiate best. Blaskovich clocked a 24.97 to place fifth, touching just a tenth of a second before her competitor from Scranton to claim a top-five spot.Â
Catholic was aided by
Mychaela Dunham and
Jordan Hewitt who combined to score 20 points on the 1-meter diving board. Dunham recorded a score 183.20 after her six finals dives to place eighth while Hewitt notched 172.60 points to finish ninth.Â
The Cardinal's third victory of the day came from the 400 medley relay team. Wiarda and Blaskovich returned to the pool alongside
Bella Mugno and
Emily Albans to take first with a time of 3:55.68. They dominated the field the entire way, stretching the led to over three seconds by the time all four legs were complete.Â
