WASHINGTON, D.C. – Two Cardinals earned first-place finishes on Saturday as the Catholic men's swimming and diving team closed out the regular season with a dual meet at Howard. The Cardinals scored 63 points to the Bison's 179.
Sean Kelty earned the Cardinal's first gold medal of the day in the 1000 free. He clocked a time of 10:09.54 to beat the rest of the field by over eight seconds.
Shawn Mashburn joined Kelty in the winner's column with a victory in the 500 free. He reached the wall in 4:56.31 to just out touch his competitor from Howard.
Jackson Hicks was the only Cardinal to earn a runner-up finish. He placed second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.34.
Four events saw Catholic record third-place finishes.
Jack Thompson clocked a 48.51 in the 100 free and a 21.98 in the 50 free,
Vincent Wills finished in 53.06 in the 100 fly, and Hicks notched another top-three finish in the 200 IM with a 2:02.64.
Catholic has two weeks off before returning to the pool for the Landmark Conference Championships from February 15-18. The four-day meet will occur at the Mangione Aquatic Center in Baltimore, Md.
