Cardinals Dominate Lycoming to Advance to Conference Championship

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The second-seeded Catholic men's soccer team is heading back to the Landmark Conference Championship after a dominant win over sixth-seeded Lycoming College on Wednesday evening. The Cardinals defeated the Warriors 3-0 in the semifinal match, advancing to the title game for the third consecutive year and improving their record to 12-0-6.

It was a thrilling first half at Carlini Field with the Cardinals establishing dominance early on, notching eight shots and three corners in the first 30 minutes. In the 30th minute, Carson Shamoo buried a shot from the top of the box into the top right corner to put the Cardinals up 1-0 over the Warriors. Shamoo's goal ties him with Azaria Tewodros for third-most goals this season with four.

The Cardinals were immediately back in the hunt, looking to extend their lead. In the 33rd minute, off a pass from Tewodros, Donik Elshani picked up a second goal for the Cardinals, finding nearly the same spot in the top-right corner to double Catholic's lead. This was Elshani's third goal of the season and Tewodros' third assist. Catholic held the Warriors off until the clock ran out in the first, leading 2-0 heading into halftime.

Lycoming came out hot in the second half, but the Cardinals matched their energy. In the 56th minute, Francesco Mattucci netted his first goal of the season, gathering a loose ball and firing it into the net, to push the lead to 3-0 and solidify Cardinals' ninth shutout win.

The Cardinals will look to claim back-to-back Landmark titles on Saturday, November 8 at Carlini Field against fifth-seeded Drew.
