TOWSON, Md. -
Tara Wiarda of the Catholic women's swimming and diving team has been named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week for her record-breaking performance at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, marking her first conference honor of the season.
Wiarda highlighted the weekend with a record-breaking performance in the 100 Backstroke. She broke the program record and the Landmark Conference record with her time of 56.94. Caroline Beal (Catholic '21) previously held the conference and program record, recording a time of 57.58 at the 2020 Landmark Conference Championships.
The junior from Green Pond, N.J. also participated in the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Backstroke at the invitational. Wiarda took silver in the 200 Backstroke, clocking a time of 2:05.61. In the Relay, Wiarda alongside
Delainey Brandt,
Anna Dymek, and
Emily Blaskovich took third, finishing with a time of 1:46.91.
This marks Wiarda's second Athlete of the Week honor, her first was in October 2023.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, January 10 in Fredericksburg, Va. where they will take on Mary Washington.
