SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
Olivia Sobkowicz and
Laurel McMahon traveled to Spartanburg, South Carolina to race in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships to represent the Catholic women's cross country team. This was the first time in program history that Catholic has had multiple individuals compete at the Cross Country National Championships in the same year.
Olivia Sobkowicz took to the course posting 237th place at the 1k mark. Quickly moving up the pack each kilometer, she completed the 6k with a time of 23:05.5 and a placement of 137 out of the 294 runners. Sobkowicz made her biggest jump during the first and second kilometer, jumping 29 places.
This performance once again adds her to the record books, this time as the 2nd best 6k performance at the NCAA Championships for the Cardinals, following recent graduate
Kate Inglis '25. Additionally, the Landmark Rookie of the Year was the 16th fastest freshman in the field.
Laurel McMahon made an impressive showing at her first NCAA Championships, moving up 22 places from where she posted at the 1k mark. During the second kilometer, the junior climbed a significant 19 spots, posting a placement of 225 at the halfway point. McMahon ended the race with a time of 23:44.3 and in 221st place.Â
This duo has had an incredible season; both Cardinals earned All-Landmark First Team honors, with Sobkowicz also earning Rookie of the Year.
