TOWSON, Md. — The Catholic men's soccer team had seven players selected to the All-Landmark Conference teams with five players on the first team and two players on the second team, it was announced today. In addition to the seven selections, the Cardinals program also captured two major Landmark awards as
Holden Woodings was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year and
Carson Shamoo earned Rookie of the Year.
Woodings earned Landmark Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, making him just the second player in program history to earn the award twice (Darius Siahpoosh, 2021-22). Once again, Woodings led the conference in goals throughout the season as well as points with 19. Woodings ranks among the top 20 in the country in both shots and shots on goal per game. His 24 career goals over two seasons ranks him seventh in DIII program history in career goals.Â
Shamoo came into the squad and made an immediate impact as a freshman to become the fourth player in program history to win Landmark Rookie of the Year and the first since his teammate
Owen Allegro won the award in 2023. Shamoo finished the season second in the conference in assists with five, tying him for the 10th-most assists in a single season in DIII program history. On top of that, Shamoo added four goals to place him second on the team and tied for third in the conference in points with 13. It is the second time that the program has earned both awards in the same season and Catholic has now had the Offensive Player of the Year for six straight seasons.
Joining both Woodings and Shamoo on the All-Landmark First Team wasÂ
Ben Zimmer,
Corey Magro and
Charlie Paparella to round out the five first team selections for the Cardinals. Zimmer earned the second All-Landmark selection of his career after being on the second team in 2023. He led the team and conference with six assists on the season and also added in a pair of goals. His six assists tied him for the fifth-most assists in a single season in DIII program history and he sits in a tie for 10th in DIII career assists in the program with 11. Magro was a staple in the Catholic defense throughout the season as the only player to play in every minute of every game for the squad. Magro was also a threat as a distributor this season with four assists to go along with a goal. Paparella was also a steady presence in the lineup for the Cardinals as a holding midfielder and played a key role in the team only conceding nine goals over the course of the season with his abilities in the midfield to earn the first All-Conference selection of his career.Â
Rounding out the selections for Catholic were
Owen Allegro and
Seth Michalak who earned a spot on the All-Landmark second team. Allegro is now a three-time All-Landmark second team selection, making him the first player in program history to do so. Allegro along with his defense have recorded eight consecutive shutouts heading into the NCAA Tournament and he ranks 10th in the country in goals against average (.513) and 32nd in shutouts (7). Michalak has been one of the most clutch players on the team this season, as he led the Landmark and is 32nd in the nation in game-winning goals with four. His six total goals on the season are tied for second-most in the conference this season to help him earn his first All-Landmark selection.
The seven All-Landmark selections comes just one shy of the program record of eight, which was set in 2019.
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday, November 15 to take on Amherst in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. The match is set to kick off at 1:30 pm in Cortland, N.Y.
